The Ulster Chemists’ Association held a Special General Meeting on 24th January at their offices on Holywood Road, Belfast, to consult members on a proposal to change the structure of the association to facilitate a closer working relationship with Community Pharmacy NI.

'Addiction NI's annual Race to Recovery took place in Ormeau Park on Sunday 11th March. Despite the "Beast from the East" causing a week's postponement it did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the 300 walkers and runners who participated in the run. Runners of all ages and abilities pulled on their trainers, pushed their prams and walked their dogs to raise awareness and much needed funds for Addiction NI.

The Pharmacy in Focus Awards provide an opportunity each year for members of the profession, representatives from the industry and members of pharmacy’s professional bodies to celebrate the amazing initiatives and projects, which have been designed to improve healthcare in general and patient outcomes in particular.

Community pharmacy is experiencing an alarming rise in aggressive and violent incidents. The worst incident involved two pharmacists (both UCA Executive Committee members) being stabbed in a pharmacy in West Belfast.

UCA surveyed its members who told us about their experiences which can be summarised as follows:

·         Violent incidents/attempted robberies in the past year

·         Attempted/robberies increasingly involving knives or guns

"Our aim is that no one finds themselves alone and vulnerable on the streets at night.

We are creating a safe haven in the heart of the city.

We are also reaching out beyond Belfast to help vulnerable people across Northern Ireland."
